Youth Out Loud members were invited to attend Editors’ meeting which took place from 25th to 26th September at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.
Editors from different media houses such as Zodiak, Times Media Group, Malawi Broadcasting Corperation, Malawi Institute of Journalism, Rainbow TV, Dzimwe Community Radio Station and PL TV/Radio attended this meeting.
The aim of the meeting was for the editors to help us young journalists in our programs as well as writing by equipping us with some skills we lacked for example writing, editing and presenting skills.
The editors listened to our Youth Out Loud programs and gave us some feedback on how our programs are presented. The feedback has encouraged us on different ways of presenting our programs and we will be able to produce best programs.
On 26th September, the editors and young journalists visited Masongola zone in Mangochi where UNICEF in partnership with AGRIT has implemented a Functional Literacy Program which helps girls who dropped out of school learn different skills on how to take care of themselves as well as business skills.
Among 5,500 girls who dropped out of school have benefited from the Program in Mangochi, Dedza and Salima and 600 have gone back to primary schools to continue with their education.
The editors and young journalists were given a chance to interview these girls on how they are benefiting from the program. The interviews went well and the young Journalists are now writing articles about the Program and the girls.
