Youth empowerment are the words oftenly being spoken by many human rights activists and political leaders. The government of Malawi has made policies on the youth such as youth empowerment.
Activists and political leaders may continue to talk about this but what do the citizens and people at grassroots think about youth empowerment? What do the youth themselves view youth empowerment?
In my own opinion, youth empowerment is all about giving power to the youths to deal with issues affecting them. This is very helpful because nowadays the youths need to take control of things like politics, youth opportunities and rights.
Mrs Soko, a social studies teacher at Mpondasi Secondary school, says that youth empowerment is a policy that gives the youth much power to improve their living standards.
It also encourages the youth to be productive participants in development.
In the past the youths had no say on issues in the society, they only did what the elders told them to do without expressing their views .
The youths are now empowered to stand up and express their views. Many people used the phrase ‘The youth are the leaders of tomorrow’, this is not the case anymore due to youth empowerment the phrase is now ‘Youth are leaders of today’.
Some are saying that youth empowerment is a policy that encourages the youth to be socially, politically and economically empowered. This is so helpful because now we can speak on political affairs and human rights.
It also helps the youth in entrepreneurship. They are encouraging government of Malawi to keep on implementing the policy so that the youth can be economically, socially and politically empowered.
