On 12th May 2018, Minister of Local Government and Rural
Development Kondwani Nankhumwa presided over a hand over ceremony of 5
ambulances, computers and printers to Mangochi District Council.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Honorable Kondwani
Nankhumwa said the ministry is working on improving public service delivery in
health, education, youth, women empowerment and water development.
He assured that the equipment will be taken care of and
maintained for a successful use.
He further expressed gratefulness of Malawi to the Iceland
government. He urged Mangochi district hospital to put the equipment's in good
use.

In her remarks, Madam Agushter from Iceland Embassy in
Malawi said she is sorry for the fire that burnt part of Mangochi district hospital promising
to help rebuild the hospital.
She congratulated Mangochi district hospital for its good
job in reducing maternal death and cholera cases.
She also pleaded with the district council that the
equipment should be put in good use and should operate for a long time.
Ministry of Health representative Dr Charles Mwansambo said
that government of Malawi is working hard especially reducing death of pregnant
women.
He thanked Iceland for the donated materials and it will be
helpful in reducing maternal death.

Mangochi District Commissioner Reverend Moses Chimphepo then
updated the audience on all the projects from Iceland which are underway in
Education like training of teachers, buying of 60 000 text books and 36 school
blocks constructed. On water development, drilling of 300 boreholes and on
health, implementation of Makanjira clinic and construction of maternity wing
and buying ambulances.
Among other activities, a drama was performed with the
message of appreciation for the donations and also to warn drivers not to
misuse the vehicles.
