Unfortunately, Latifah comes from a disadvantaged family as such her mother cannot afford anything to enable further her education.
It is against this background that a local Non- governmental
organization called Campaign for Girls Education (CAMFED) took the responsibility
for payment of school fees only, and CAMFED liaised with the Head Teacher at
Majuni that her fellow students should also take part in helping her with other
secondary school needs.
The students then took an initiative to arrange for her
transportation from Majuni to Lisumbwi Secondary School.
Her family would not manage to support her and the Head Teacher
at Majuni Secondary School after noticing the girl’s passion for education
narrated the story to the community and her fellow students hoping to attract
well wishers.
So her fellow students, teachers, community members and
mother groups contributed what they could manage like soap, toothpaste, zitenje
and any amount of money to enable her travel to school and other expenses as needed
from time to time at a boarding school.
Speaking in an interview with Youth out Loud, Latifah expressed
gratitude to all the people who have helped her with what they could afford to
change her story from one that was helpless to a hopeful story.
She said the
assistance has enabled her start a new life at the boarding school but she
still needs assistance from other well wishers and organizations, she still needs
other things for next term.
