Timveni, UNICEF conduct Youth Out Loud entry meetings with community leaders

In continuation with the Youth Out Loud project activities, Timveni with funding from UNICEF conducted entry meetings with community leaders in Namwera , Majuni , Mkumba and Monkey Bay. 

The objective of the meetings was to brief community leaders on the Youth Out Loud project and therefore stimulates support for the project.

The entry meetings targeted community leaders as they are key in decision making on any issues that affect youths.

Among the called groups were village heads, mother groups, Area Development Committee (ADC), Village Development Committee (VDC), Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Religious leaders and influential business persons.

During the meetings, Timveni with the youth journalists (for the project) conducted interviews with selected participants on the following topics:

1. It is a trend for youth to leave school at secondary level and (a) girls rush into marriage due to lack of interest for tertiary education (b) Boys rush to South Africa in search for “green Pastures”

2.  Government and NGOs are busy encouraging youths to speak out on issues that affect their education and lives in general. Do the youth feel their voices are being heard?

The radio programs are aired on Dzimwe Community radio (every Saturday @15:30), Umoyo radio, Radio Maria (13:30) and Timveni Radio.
