I am being oppressed because I am a girl

BY Frank Shaka

Is this work we are given?

Cause l consider it as slavery

Why is there bias between us?

Is it because of sex or strength?

We are criticized in front of our friends

For they say that marriage is better for us

And that motherhood fits us

Is this kind of work our main occupation?

To stay home and prepare everything

What makes us different?

They say youth are leaders of tomorrow

But l don’t believe in that saying

Since am not considered as one

I sing a song of lament

To both my beloved cares

I am not a slave

For l am worthy as everyone

I hope my cry is heard

From north to south and east to west

Since l am a girl that is  being oppressed
