Mother Groups Help Children Get Education

Mother groups in Mangochi are transforming lives. They help children to go back to school from the money they earn to buy uniforms , books and food especially for girls who return to school.

Reporter Aisha Seleman writes, "Unusual sight greets visitors from head teacher Mr. Hamisi house's at Koche community Day secondary school. The front room has been converted into a workshop which coordinates with school and local community.

The mother groups are sewing sanity pads to prevent girls missing school during their periods as they work they sing a song saying: "We are proud to promote girls education"

They continue singing in gospel "We are proud to be the member of a mother group"

30 year old woman Maria Benson is a member of  the group she says, "Mangochi has had a bad name and we want the district to be known for something good."
