Girls are regarded as belonging to special group due to their different characteristics. Just like boys, they are also enjoy human rights such as right to life, right to an identity as well as right to education just to mention a few.

The International intervention that deals with Girls Participation in Education is Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE).

FAWE was setup in 1992 and its members are influential women policy makers in African Countries. Some are Ministers of Education and University Vice Chancellors. FAWEMA exists to improve girl’s participation in education. This is particularly important in African where education standards are still low.

Many schools for example here in Malawi, are giving girls more theoretical lessons instead of practical experience. This reduced their ability to gain more skills to use in school and once they complete school.

In Malawi, schools are experiencing the problem of teacher-pupil ratio whereby one teacher teaches more students in class than the recommended number. For example, there might be 100 students in a class against one teacher. This is affects students including girls in a way that they do not concentrating fully because of the overcrowding.

To improve girls participation in education, Government should provide funds to the Ministry of Education to improve quality education in different schools. These funds will help the Ministry to purchase school curriculum books and other school materials to increase practical lessons.

Girls are capable of doing anything as long as they have all the requirements for their achievements. By increasing practical lessons in schools, girls will be able to improve their lives by engaging themselves in different practices that will help them achieve their goals.
