Girl With A Vision

By Getrude Samuel

Many years ago in Mwalija village there was a certain family called Bengo. The family only had child who was a girl. Mr and Mrs Bengo were not working at any institution, they were just depending on their garden to earn money that helped them to raise their living standards.

Their daughter's name was Angel, she was an intelligent girl. After writing her primary school leaving certificate of education (PSLCE), Angel got selected to St. Michaels secondary school. After hearing about her selection, people of her village were wondering because many people believed that a girl child cannot do well in everything.

She began her secondary school but the problem was that her parents were so poor to afford paying her school fees or give her pocket money. During holidays, Angel used to work as an assistant farmer in order to get something to pay her school fees. Though she was trying her best, money she was earning was little comparing to her fees due to the shortness of the holidays.

Even though Angel faced many problems, she kept on working hard until she managed to sit for JCE and MSCE. After coming of MSCE, Angel passed with flying colours which made her to go further with her education.

Even though the villagers encouraged her to get married, Angel refused owing to high self esteem that she had and she believed that education is the key to success and marriage comes after education. So soon after that got very wonderful job and good marriage which made her to live happily.

My advice to you girls is that, being poor is not a reason enough to drop out of school, but fight hard to achieve your goals.

Education is the only skilled force that nations can give the girl child.
