Mphatso recounts SA's digital storytelling workshop experience

Mphatso's presentation at digital story telling workshop in SA

By Mphatso Chimfuti

Having being told that I was one of the two people who were selected to go to South Africa to attend a digital storytelling workshop, I was very pleased since it was my first time going abroad.

We traveled on 4th September this year. I was very excited to be on a plane and my dream come true.

The training took place at Maropeng Hotel in Johannesburg. The countries that took part were Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa. UNICEF representatives from some of these countries came to attend this meeting.

I was very glad after making new friends from all these countries. The training started on Wednesday 5th September. Some of the training's objectives were for us to be able to find out stories affecting our lives and how to produce short films using a mobile phones.

The application used for filming was open camera. This camera enables one to record a film with high definition. The application used for editing was Kinemaster. This application enables users to edit videos by playing around with filters as well as audios.

The training will help us a lot in our program because for us to attract reader's attention, the short films will help us to do so and with the skills of editing, we'll be able to produce good films for our program.

Thank you UNICEF and Timveni. You have opened our minds.
