POEM – Many Die

John
By John Luke

Our eyes have seen many fall
Like mowed grass
And sky let falling stars

Our eyes have caught
The village cries gong
Announcing yet another dead

Day and day the hope of cure fade
As society public is mowed by AIDS
Strange, no youth choose to abstain
Many die.

THE SHARP TENOCIOUS JAWS
Season in and season out
This song we have chanted
A song pregnant with chunks of wisdom
A song studied words of sages
On how to elude the sharp
Tenacious jaws
Of this marauding scourge

But sad and disheartening
That season in and season out
The virtue of victim soars
When shall we, country men
Cease, stretching our vocal chords
Chanting the song over and over again
