POEM - MKALABOMGO (ALCOHOL)

Felix
BY: FELIX BANDA

Morning school bell shift I.T.C.Z
From the school to the pubs
Wind follows, young imbibers sway
Like rose house top sheets
Off they storm
As fast as lightening
Only to wrinkle faces after a sip
Only to repeat stories like scratched C.D
Demising Malawi’s Americas dream
School clears pubs fills
Like electronics in shells
Circles formed.

In bar girls vicinities noise gathers
Noise that deafen
This is a real
Deal, it kills quickly
While exposing sticky nicotine on milk teeth
While proclaiming the wonders
Wonders of killers branded
Shooter, win. Ryder, Black power and other spears
Generally all types of alcohol called Mkalabongo
A dead loss, enemy of development.

With a gape teachers stare attomorrow’s fallen angels
Nearly to cry their advice fall on deaf ears
Pressed with thousand huge cares
Where on earth other students are?
And hey you there where is your desk mate
Is he sick?” I don’t know be” the response

As half nine school, bell ordered
Some went breaking for bread
Others breaking half nine breaking rule
Majority breaking school rules
Lacking self-awareness
As they are in dark
Unknowingly where to
Like Johna in Shark
Doing a dirty work
Like worms in the mud
